Thanks to our wonderful partnership with the low cost spay and neuter clinic BARC - and because of a few generous donations from our supporters - we were able to cover the spay and neuters for 25 more dogs. 2 day clinic with Dr. Paris in Perris
Our March pop-up clinic in Perris highlighted a significant, ongoing need within the local encampments. We were honored to host the incredible Dr. Paris from SANSTEP (Spay Neuter Surgery Training Education Program), who performed 26 dog spay/neuter surgeries and generously donated an additional 20 cat surgeries at no cost to us. Beyond the procedures, Dr. Paris provided invaluable mentorship, training fellow veterinarians in the techniques of High-Quality High-Volume Spay/Neuter (HQHVSN) to enable more vets to become specialized in higher volume surgery days. WE HAVE ONE MORE CLINIC LIKE THIS PLANNED - if interested in (partly) sponsoring such a day, please contact hello@thespayceproject.org We are thankful for our partnership with the hard working ladies at Feeding Perris Strays who continually step up for their community, planning and transporting the dogs in most need of support.
April: Three High Volume clinics in the High desert!
We are making massive strides across the High Desert! We’ve officially locked in 3 (!) HQHV spay and neuter clinic days to serve the communities of Adelanto, Porterville, and Barstow.
This ambitious schedule would not have been possible without the incredible generosity of our Porterville clinic sponsor SunnyBear Cares. Their decision to cover a FULL CLINIC allowed us to fix 51 extra dogs in Porterville alone! Check out this post!
By focusing on these three specific regions, we are tackling the heart of the "vet desert." Every surgery provided directly prevents hundreds of unplanned litters from entering a heartbreaking cycle of suffering. Thank you again SunnyBear Dog Rescue!!
3 more days at BARC this April
Spaying it forward! Our three days at BARC this month successfully provided spay and neuter surgeries for 30 dogs traveling from Newberry Springs, Lucerne Valley, Yermo, Apple Valley, Hesperia, Barstow and more - targeting this remote "vet desert," and stopping the cycle of unwanted litters where the suffering is the greatest. We are already planning our return to clear the growing waitlist, and you can make a direct impact by sponsoring a dog for $250, which covers their surgery and basic vaccinations. Help us provide a vital lifeline to these High Desert families and sponsor a pup! Venmo @thespayceprojectdonate or Zelle/PayPal support@thespayceproject.org today!
Excursion to El Centro, California - 58 dogs today!
With only one vet in the entire El Centro area - dogs multiply much faster than the community can handle. Thanks to today’s clinic sponsor @thriveanimalrescue we were able to go out to El Centro and help 58 dog owners break the cycle of unplanned litters. Big thanks to Dr. Vasquez and the team of LAACF to travel to our South border and make a difference for the El Centro community!
It costs the SPAY(CE) Project $12.000,- to fund a full day of surgeries; please contact us if you or your organization would like to (co)sponsor a future clinic and help us clear the waiting list hello@thespayceproject.org
The forgotten dogs in Perris
In the outskirts of Perris, California, many dogs live in hidden encampments where a pet overpopulation crisis is steadily growing. Without intervention, this cycle continues unchecked. On Monday, March 2nd, we are organizing a High Quality High Volume (HQHV) clinic to address this head-on. The majority of our patients are coming directly from these encampments, where the need for preventative care is critical. Every dog will be spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and treated for fleas and ticks - breaking the cycle and providing immediate relief where it’s needed most. Many thanks to Feeding Perris Strays for the great partnership transporting (and their TLC) for these deserving dogs.
March in Barstow
We are thrilled to announce that a recent gift allowed us to book two days at our partner clinic, BARC, covering 50 spay and neuter surgeries for the Barstow area. This area faces extreme environmental challenges - from ice-cold winters to blistering heat in summer - where the many outdoor dogs suffer and multiply quickly. Providing these services is a crucial step in improving animal welfare and controlling the local pet population in the desert communities. While these 50 surgeries are a vital start, the need in our desert communities remains immense. Will you help us fund our next clinic day? Please contact us to learn how! hello@thespayceproject.org
Adelanto, California
Adelanto has long been a priority for our High Quality High Volume (HQHV) mobile unit. This community currently sits in a 'veterinary desert,' where affordable spay and neuter services are nearly non-existent. For most residents, the few available options are financially out of reach, making our mission to provide accessible care more critical than ever. With 45 spots available today, we are pleased to support 45 families in curbing the dog overpopulation in their community.
BARC in Barstow here we come!
This Sunday, we are prioritizing 13 dogs from two high-need households. Without intervention, these dogs continue to multiply in an environment where the puppies’ survival is a daily struggle against intense weather and coyotes. By providing these spay and neuter surgeries today, we aren't just helping the 13 dogs - we’re preventing hundreds of future puppies from entering a crowded shelter system.
A morning in Panorama City
While much of our work focuses on the desert communities surrounding LA, we are equally committed to supporting our underserved neighborhoods closer to home. Today, we are providing accessible spay and neuter services for 25 dogs in Panorama City for families managing multiple dogs in one household, on a limited budget. By bringing these clinics directly to the community, we aim to reduce the amount of unplanned litters and ease the burden on our local shelter system.
2nd Porterville Clinic - 50 dogs
After a very successful Porterville clinic and over 100 additional spay and neuter requests, we’re going back!
Once again, because of YOUR donations, we were able to book the amazing HQHV team @ Latino Alliance for Animal Care Foundation and are heading to Porterville to provide surgeries for 50 dogs today. By offering this clinic free of charge, we’re ensuring that financial barriers don't stand in the way of these vital spay and neuter surgeries and that no dog gets left behind.

BARC January clinics - Jan 11 and Jan 25
In collaboration with our trusted partner BARC in the High Desert, we are providing spay and neuter services for 35 dogs who urgently need care.
Many of these dogs require full assistance - from help with the voucher application process to transportation to and from the clinic. These are the dogs that live outdoors year-round, exposed to extreme summer heat and freezing winter nights, puppies being eaten by coyotes or packs of roaming stray dogs, and often without reliable access to basic care, food, or even clean water.
Spay and Neuter Clinic Porterville - 50 dogs
Porterville is one of the many forgotten areas where access to veterinary care is limited and the need is overwhelming. Unfixed dogs continue to have litter after litter, not because people don’t care - but because help is out of reach.
Together with the Latino Alliance for Animal Care Foundation, The SPAY(CE) Project is heading to Porterville to provide spay and neuter surgeries for 50 dogs who would otherwise be left behind. Each surgery prevents future suffering, reduces shelter overcrowding, and gives both dogs and families a real chance at stability.

Come to LA City Hall and have your voices heard!
We’re not generally the types to rally on the streets but today we got out of our comfort zone and showed up at LA City Hall. Thousands of dogs and cats are suffering and dying in Los Angeles City shelters - and it’s only getting worse.
From a recent LA Times article, data shows that in 2024 from Jan to Sep, 1224 dogs were euthanized in our so-called “NO KILL” shelters - a 72% increase over last year. Healthy, adoptable animals are losing their lives simply because there’s no space, no staffing, and no support.
City leadership promised to address the crisis. Instead, overcrowding is up, more animals are dying, and now proposed budget cuts could make things even worse. This isn’t just heartbreaking — it’s preventable.
Many resources could be spend different if LA City would look closer to HOW TO PREVENT DOGS ENDING UP IN THE SHELTERS IN THE FIRST PLACE!! We need to start offering SPAY & NEUTER PROGRAMS for the underserved areas!
By preventing unwanted litters, we reduce shelter crowding at the root.
This is why our mission matters 🖤

Spay & neuter project Lancaster strays
40 strays fed and sheltered by one kind women. But none of the dogs were spayed or neutered. Our sweepstakes fundraiser funded the efforts of Pups without Borders to get more than 25 dogs spayed & neutered, and we're still counting!
Ann Marie’s dogs Lucerne Valley
We are looking for a rescue organization or adopters for 4 of the dogs! Deb got a call. Fifteen dogs were dumped in a visionally impaired elderly lady’s yard in Lucerne Valley. 10 had already died, the others were hungry. When in Barstow for another project, we went to see if there was anything we could do. We ended up taking the dogs and had them spayed & neutered at the local vet. The dogs are now safely with a foster.
Two days Mobile spay & neuter unit in Bakersfield
[This project is a wrap!] In 2023, 3.2 million dogs entered the shelters in the US, 360.000 dogs were euthanized >> we killed THREE HUNDRED AND SIXTY THOUSAND dogs. Together with our SPAY-partners Pups without Borders, Love Dog Rescue & Foundation and SNIP we were able to host 2 days of spay and neuter services in Bakersfield. A total of 68 dogs got spayed/neutered!
